Love is a many splendor thing

It's the April rose that only grows

in the early spring

Love is Nature's way of giving

A reason to be living

The golden crown that makes a man a king

Once, on a high and windy hill

In the morning mist two lovers kissed

and the world stood still

Then your fingers touched my silent heart

And taught it how to sing

Yes, true love's a many-splendor thing.

Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing (film)

Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing is a 1955 film. Set in 1949-50 Hong Kong, it
tells the story of a married but separated American reporter (played by William
Holden), who falls in love with a Eurasian doctor originally from Mainland China
(played by Jennifer Jones), only to encounter prejudice from her family and from
Hong Kong society.

The movie was adapted by John Patrick from the 1952 novel A Many-Splendoured
Thing by Han Suyin. The film was directed by Henry King.

It won Academy Awards for Best Costume Design, Color, Best Music, Scoring of a
Dramatic or Comedy Picture and Best Music, Song (for Sammy Fain and Paul Francis
Webster for "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing"). It was nominated for Best
Actress in a Leading Role (Jennifer Jones), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration,
Color (Lyle Wheeler, George Davis, Walter M. Scott, Jack Stubbs), Best
Cinematography, Color, Best Picture and Best Sound, Recording. [1]

Filming locations included Hong Kong.

The movie later inspired a television soap opera without the hyphen in the
show's title in 1967.

"Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing" is a popular song with music by Sammy Fain and
lyrics by Paul Francis Webster. The same pair wrote "Secret Love", an earlier
winner of the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The song appeared in the
movie, Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing, winning its own Best Song Academy Award.
From 1967 to 1973, it was used as the theme song to Love is a Many Splendored
Thing, the soap opera based on the movie.

The best-selling version of the song was recorded by The Four Aces, issued by
Decca Records as catalog number 29625. It reached #1 on both Billboard and Cash
Box in 1955.[1] The recording by The Four Aces features in the film Cookie
(1989).

Another version, by Don Cornell, was recorded approximately at the same time. It
was issued by Coral Records as catalog number 61467.

This song has also has been sung by Ringo Starr (in his album Sentimental
Journey), Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams and Barry Manilow, as well as the title
of the song being referred to by AFI in their album Very Proud of Ya. A section
of the song is sung in the TV series Bones by Eric Millegan, the actor who plays
Zack Addy, in the episode "Wannabe in the Weeds".
