本名は、オードリー・キャスリーン・ファン・ヘームストラ・ヘプバーン＝ラストン（Audrey Kathleen Van Heemstra Hepburn-Ruston）。日本においてはヘップバーンと表記する場合もある。各種資料の一部に本名を「エッダ・ファン・ヘームストラ」とするものもある。「エッダ」は、戦時中、ドイツ占領下にあったオランダで、「オードリー」という名がイギリス的であることを心配した母エッラが、自らの名前をもじって（EllaをEddaとした）一時的に変えたものである。

Although modest about her acting ability, Hepburn remains one of the world's most famous actresses of all time, remembered as a film and fashion icon of the twentieth century. Redefining glamour with "elfin" features[1] and a waif-like figure that inspired designs by Hubert de Givenchy, she was inducted in the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame, and ranked, by the American Film Institute, as the third greatest female screen legend in the history of American cinema.
